Mansfield - Heaven gained another angel, as Winona Jeanne Hacker Newberry (Nana) passed away September 26, 2016 at Mansfield Methodist Hospital after a brief illness.
MEMORIAL - A celebration of Winona's beautiful life will be held at Watercrest at Mansfield, 250 E. Debbie Lane, Mansfield, on Saturday, October 15th at 4 pm.
Winona was born December 10, 1930 in Melrose Park, Illinois, to Albert E. and Vivien I. Hacker. She was married to Isaac E. (Ed) Newberry, Jr. for 58 years, after eloping with him to Las Vegas, December 31, 1949. Winnie, as she was known to all, worked at LTV and Vought Aircraft, starting as a secretary and retiring as a Senior Documentation Analyst working on both the Space Shuttle and the Stealth Bomber projects. She was also a full time mother, grandmother and Nana, and great grandmother.
Her love and joy of cooking magnificent foods was only exceeded by sharing them with her family and friends. Weekends and holidays were made with Winnie's cooking and baking in mind. There was no better feeling in the world than walking into her busy kitchen to the smell of a wonderful Sunday dinner, with Tony Bennett playing in the background.
Winnie enjoyed the last five years living at Watercrest at Mansfield. She made countless friends there and enjoyed her weekly games of Bingo, Dominoes and Hand & Foot.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Barry, and her loving husband, Eddy.
She is survived by her daughter Pamela Newberry (Michael Gillin) of Bellaire, TX; son Jeffrey Newberry of Mansfield; daughter Jan Newberry-Davis (George Newberry-Davis) of Lawton, OK; grandchildren Donesh Gillin, Kate Sommers (Kyle), Benesh Gillin, Adam Newberry (Brittany), Emma Newberry-Davis, Olivia Newberry Clark (Kevin Clark), Andrew Newberry-Davis, and Meredith Newberry, and great-grandchildren Arthur Sommers, Charles Sommers, Isaac Newberry and Heidi Newberry, and her 2 loving cats, Pitch and Moses.
In lieu of flowers, Winnie would be greatly pleased if you made a donation to your local women and children's shelter or your local animal shelter. She would be estatic if you didn't vote for Donald Trump.
