William Ray Maloney

William R Maloney (Bill) passed away peacefully at his home in Grand Prairie, Texas on Monday August 1, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife Sharlayne, and his seven children include, Christopher, Rebecca, Patricia, Timothy, Suzanna, Shannon and Justus and his four step children are Brent, Kirsten, Gwenne and Craig. He was a proud grandfather to 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Bill was born on December 10, 1935 in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. He attended Elementary School and High School in Fort Worth, Texas and when young moved with his family to several other states following his father’s jobs in road construction. Immediately after high school graduation he joined the Navy, was stationed in San Diego, California and served in The Korean War.
Bill received a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) at The University of Southern California. He went on to have a long and accomplished career in Electrical Engineering, that included 6 US Patents while employed at Charles Bruning Company. He had extensive experience in security project management with small to large projects for commercial and government facilities.
Bill was a long time member and very dedicated to The Church of The Covenants in Lake Forest, Illinois eventually becoming ordained there.
He was a skilled craftsman, and in particular carpentry, woodworking and leather work he excelled. Hobbies he enjoyed included fishing, astronomy, reading, writing poetry, playing the guitar, and keeping on top of current world and political events. He enjoyed travel and he and Sharlayne enjoyed trips together especially to tropical destinations.
His amazing work ethic and no nonsense approach to life along with his witty charm, humor and smile will always be remembered.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Bill’s life will be held at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 5851 New York Ave., Arlington, TX 76018 on Saturday August 27, 2016 at 4:00 PM. Refreshments to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
Arrangements for a private inurnment at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, TX are pending.
