Virginia Belle Gunter

August 6, 1926 — February 17, 2019

Virginia Belle Gunter, 92, went home to her Lord on February 17, 2019, surrounded by her family, in Mansfield. Virginia was born to Benjamin Ray and Virgie Katherine (Cooper) Damron on August 6, 1926 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Virginia grew up knowing farm life and her family’s jewelry business, Damron’s Jewelry. So, because of the two facets of her life, she knew how to work hard not only at the family’s business but as a career throughout the rest of her working life. She has worked in jewelry sales in several cities including Elk City and Tulsa, Oklahoma, Houston, Texas and St. Louis, Missouri. Besides her career, Virginia enjoyed her family on camping trips, sometimes including water skiing, and generally just traveling. She enjoyed running and working out and going to the gym and, equally, going shopping. Mostly, her traditions of being together with family at Christmas time, and Thanksgiving, were certainly highlights in her life. Another highlight of Virginia’s life was meeting Tarpley Thurman Gunter, Jr., a member of the United States Navy, in 1942, on a blind date, in Clinton, Oklahoma. Virginia and Tarpley enjoyed 59 years together until he went home in 2004.
Virginia was strong in her faith. She was a member of the Mansfield Church of Christ and served her church, joyfully, as a member of the welcome committee, the Pillow Ministry, bible study groups, Care groups and visiting those that were near and dear to her at hospitals and nursing homes.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Virgie Damron, husband Thurman, siblings Harold and Dow Damron, granddaughter Nicole Hoyle and son-in-law Bud Mitchell.
Virginia is survived by daughters Connie Batson (husband Kenneth) and Kathy Mitchell, granddaughters Sara Vation (husband Andre’), Brandi Millstid (husband Tim), grandson-in-law Brian Hoyle, great-grandchildren Cameron and Kennedy Vation, Aubrie, Brady and Avery Millstid, Megan Hoyle, great-granddaughter Katee Cormier (husband Nick), great-great granddaughter Emmie Cormier and a great-great grandchild due in August.
