Vesta Fay Anderson

December 28, 1924 — December 15, 2015

Vesta Fay Anderson was born on December 28, 1924 in Belleville, Indiana to Emery Clyde and Maud Alice Smyth. Her only sibling was a younger brother, Emery Clyde, Jr. Vesta grew up in the small town of Warren, Indiana where her father owned the Salamonie grain mill, the local gas station and the coal yard. After graduation from high school, she pursued a Bachelor’s degree in business education at the then named Ball State Teacher’s College in Muncie, Indiana. This is where she met the love of her life, Forrest “Fordy” Anderson. She accepted Fordy’s proposal at the Kentucky Derby and they were married in June of 1949. Theirs was a love that lasted sixty six years. She and Fordy made Fort Wayne, Indiana their home and had three children, a daughter, Marianne and two sons, Jerome “Jerry” and David.
Vesta spent the first year of her teaching career at a small school in Wolf Lake, Indiana and the next thirty six years in the Fort Wayne Community School System. In the 1970s, she designed and developed one of the first computer based programs for business education. It served as a teaching model for the state of Indiana for several years.
Vesta loved traveling, dancing, music, science and art. She spent many relaxing hours playing her baby grand piano which was a treasured gift from Fordy after they retired. Her greatest joy came from time spent with family.
Vesta completed her journey in life on December 15, 2015 at the age of 90. She is survived by her daughter, Marianne Kissinger and husband, Scott, her son, Jerome “Jerry” Anderson and wife, Lynn, her son, David Anderson and wife, Cindy, Grandchildren, Kylah McNabb, Brian Kissinger, Sean Kissinger, Jennifer Anderson, Megan McFall, Erik Anderson, Christopher Anderson, Forrest Anderson, Margaret Smythe Anderson and Great Grandchildren, Sean McFall, Asher McNabb and Maverick Kissinger.
The family gives their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and nurses who cared for Vesta. Sincerest gratitude goes to Christie Colpaert and Tara Franklin who were her loving caretakers and to Mission Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family would like for donations to be directed to the American Heart Association.
