Timothy Gene Patterson, 57, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014.
Memorial service: Saturday March 1, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, Mansfield. Visitation with family and friends will be at 1:30pm. Service will begin at 3PM. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Tara Patterson Memorial Fund for the women's basketball program at Southwestern College, 100 College St., Winfield, KS 67156.
Tim was born June 6, 1956 to Harvey (Pat) and Charlene Patterson in England. As the son of an Air Force veteran, Tim grew up in many locations including Alabama, Kansas, Okinawa, Mississippi, Maryland and Texas.
Tim spent a significant portion of his childhood in Maryland, where he developed a great passion for the Washington Redskins. He also enjoyed attending Washington Senators' games with his family at RFK Stadium. As the oldest of seven siblings, Tim often organized pick-up games of basketball, football, wiffle ball and other games.
In 1971, Tim moved to Grand Prairie where he attended South Grand Prairie High School. As a gifted baseball player, Tim was selected Texas All-State 2nd baseman as he helped lead South Grand Prairie to a state title in 1974. During his high school years, Tim also developed a love for music and became a talented trumpet player.
Tim was a loving and devoted father to his children Patrick, Randy, Tara and Macie. He enjoyed coaching their sports teams, attending their games and events. His sense of humor and love of music has influenced their lives.
Tim and his wife, Holly shared a deep faith in Christ, which they demonstrated as active members of First United Methodist Church of Mansfield. They were also instrumental in establishing a support group at their church for families impacted by cancer.
Tim is preceded in death by his daughter Tara.
Survivors: He is survived by his wife, Holly; daughter, Macie; sons, Patrick and Randy, born to Laura Patterson; grandchildren, Nathan, Regan and Cason; parents, Pat and Charlene; and siblings, Cheryl, Tom, Carrie, Terry, Ken and Kyle.
