Sylvia Chestine Howard Hamaker was born on February 20, 1940 and died on January 7, 2017. She was born in Houston, Texas to William Chester Howard and Mary Adeline Heermans Howard.
Sylvia loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed embroidering and quilt making. She shared many of her quilts with family, friends, and numerous organizations. She was a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Cecil Hamaker of Mansfield, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Gary Smith of Arlington, Texas; son, Raymond Hamaker of Fort Worth, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Daren and Mitzi Hamaker of Lufkin, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Chris Sullivan of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Megan Porterfield and husband Phillip, Elizabeth Hamaker, Bryan Hamaker, Daniel Hamaker, Emily Smith, Maura Smith, Madison Sullivan, and Tucker Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Porterfield and Aiden Porterfield; brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Margaret Howard of Denison, Texas; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Sylvia’s name, to the Metroplex Women’s Clinic (formerly known as the Arlington Pregnancy Center).
