Susan Lynn Powell

June 18, 1957 — September 7, 2020

Susan Lynn Powell was born the first of four children to Nancy (Warters) and Urban L. “Buck” Ready on June 18, 1957 in Champaign, Illinois.

Susan spent her formative years in Indianapolis,IN and attended Purdue University earning a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design in 1979. However, she spent most of her career as a systems/logistics consultant for IBM.

Among her hobbies and interests was a passion for gardening, books, baseball, cooking, and baking. Any of the people who knew and loved her can attest to her mastery in the kitchen.

Susan met her future husband, Kyle, a photographer from Long Island, NY, in early 1990 while attending the First Community Church of Dallas. Neither one was actively looking for that “someone special” but what happened was pretty much love at first sight. Their wedding on May 23, 1992 was held at that church with all their family, friends, and the entire church congregation in attendance.

They ultimately settled in Mansfield, TX and a pleasant life in September, 2005. But a bacterial infection in August, 2008 left her paralyzed and facing an all new set of challenges.

When God closes a door, He opens a window and Susan ultimately accepted her lot and strove to live her best life by amazing and inspiring everyone who ever met and knew her to the very end.

She is survived by her husband, Kyle, her mother, Nancy Ready, siblings Julie Payne, Greg, and Michael Ready, her brother in law, Edward Payne, sisters in law Joann and Maria Ready, nephews Daniel and Jeff Payne, Alan, Chase, and Camden Ready, as well as her lovely niece, Stephanie Ready. Also related by an unshakable love and love of Jesus Christ, is her sister, her “dada”, Grace Nyandika and sons, Victor, Daniel, and Douglas.

She was preceded in death by her father, Urban L. Ready.
