Susan Merrill, 52 years old resident of Ft. Worth, Texas passed away Thursday June 2, 2016 at her home.
Susan was born November 18, 1963 in Jackson, Michigan to Dale and Nancy Merrill. Along with Dale and Nancy, Susan is survived by her sister Cindi Musslewhite and her husband Robby of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, her brother, Daniel Merrill and his wife Mary Lou of Waxahachie Texas, Lesa Lane and her significant other Scott Rudel. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews: Jamie Hammock, Jay and Stephanie Backer, Michael and Jamie Hammock, Kevin and Keri Castillo, Brooke Merrill and John Rodriquez, Dale Lane. She is also survived by her beloved Sophie and Dempsey.
Susan graduated from Mansfield High School in 1982 where she was a member of the National Honor Society and played for the Mansfield Tigers Tennis Team. After graduation Susan attended North Texas State University, now known as University of North Texas. She graduated with a Bachelors Degree in education in 1989.
After a year of “finding herself” Susan began her teaching career in the Birdville ISD in 1990. Through a 26 year career Susan taught 13 years at Richland Middle School and 13 years at Haltom Middle School. She taught Home Economics, Reading, Writing, Math and English. She worked with At Risk students in which she helped 100s of students with their reading and writing. Susan helped them overcome their obstacles and challenged them to reach their goals. She had a passion for teaching and loved her students.
Susan loved watching most sporting events. Especially the Major tennis and golf events. Sometimes she would wake up as early as 3:00 am to watch the Australian Open as well as Wimbledon and the British Open.
Susan also volunteered as a Big Sister. She was a cat lover as well and was a member of the “Itty Bitty Kitty Committee”. A forum dedicated to the sharing of stories and pictures of member’s cats.
Her musical interests include artists like Annie Lennox, Adele, Michael Bolton, Cher, Barbara Streisand, Barry Manilow, Bruce Springsteen, Josh Groban, Pink and Carrie Underwood to name just a few of her favorites.
