Shirley was a faithful member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Mansfield Texas since 2003. Prior to that a Member of Baptist Temple in Grand Prairie for many years.
Shirley retired from being Day Care Giver in her home for children in 2010. She cared for many children in her life time. She was a member of the Grand Prairie Child Care Association. She started working in a day care called Little Rascals in Grand Prairie, Texas the year of 1973. She had never driven in her life time, she would ride her bicycle to work. Shirley did whatever it took to survive by the Grace of her Heavenly Father. She was a single Mom for many years. She was a strong woman that knew how to make ends meet to survive the trials and tough circumstances that life had to offer financially, emotionally, and physically. She would make sure all the children and grandchildren she babysat knew Jesus and would sing to them the words of “Jesus Loves the Little Children of the World” red, yellow black and white they are precious in HIS sight, Jesus Loves The Little Children of the World. Her favorite song was “Jesus Loves Me This I know for the Bible tells me so…”
Shirley loved people. The family would like to give a special Thank you to the Lydia Sunday School class of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church for being there at any time of the day to take our Mother to the Doctor, pick her up for church, or just going to have a meal together. Her favorite day of the week was Sunday. She thrived all week to get to Sunday to hear the wonderful Choir at the Ridge and also hear messages from Randy Weeaks. If her kids missed church she would tell us how we should have been there to listen to the awesome sermon. (If we would have been there we would have learned something) On Sundays, she would come home sit in her rocker and listen to gospel music the rest of the day. Terry’s truth of her Mother is what a faithful servant she was to the Lord. She will always have the vision of coming down the stairs and seeing her Mother through the bedroom door reading her Bible. Terry can testify that her Mother was in the Word daily. Shirley loved being on the cell phone with her friends Gay Nell Harris, Sharon, Sherri, Frances Moon and, many others. We had to buy more cell phone minutes because she was running up the phone bill. She would carry on for hours laughing and giggling on the phone with her friends. Shirley was a reader. She loved to get new books and exchange books with all her friends. Shirley loved to fish. She would catch many when she went fishing. She was a great seamstress for many years and made most of her own children’s clothing. She loved to quilt and crochet.
She loved sitting around the table after meals to talk. She enjoyed all of the family when they would come together for special events. Her favorite day of the year was Christmas Eve… she never missed Christmas Eve with her family until this past Christmas. She went to the hospital on December 23rd with Complications from pneumonia and other infections. She was taken back to her home on Bushdale Drive January 23rd to get comfortable in her own surroundings. Thank you to Aly Pollard for the generosity of helping the family find IntegraCare Hospice. Shirley received the best of care from Jessie Hope and Sade (Shaday) Badmus with IntegraCare from January 23rd through February 1st. Jessie and Sade shared many tears along with the family as we watched our Mother and MaMaw decline and until her final breath to go be with Jesus. We are thankful for all the love they showed MaMaw and our family. Thank you Mamaw and Mom for the Legacy you left behind in this falling world of sin. On February 1st 20 days before her 77th birthday, We Give God the Glory you are in HIS arms and Dancing on the streets of Gold with Jesus our Lord and Savior. Mom, MaMaw, friend, sister, God’s child we are going to miss you and We Love You!
