Scottie Ray Davis Barnes, 51, of Mansfield passed away peacefully Monday, March 6, 2017 while surrounded by his family. Funeral: 1:00 p.m. Friday at Blessing Funeral Home in Mansfield. Pastor Jay Fraze of Community of Hope United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Emerald Hills Cemetery in Kennedale. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Blessing Funeral Home. Scottie was born in Port Lavaca, TX on December 14, 1965. He was the youngest child of the late W.D. and Joyce Boyd Barnes. Scottie moved to Houston in his late 20’s and it was there he raised his daughters with his wife at the time, Sally Keogh. His daughters were the joy of his life. Scottie also became a member of the Life Tabernacle Pentecostal Church and became a great disciple of Jesus being very active in volunteering and working at the church. One of his favorite duties was driving the “Sunday School Bus” to outlying neighborhoods and providing many children and teens with transportation to church. Mr. Scottie was a favorite with the congregation. In 2008 Scottie had a motorcycle accident that left him with a traumatic brain injury. The injury may have taken his ability to walk, but not his ability to talk. He had his cell phone close and called and texted everyone daily. He still had the same personality and wit. Many friends came to Memorial Herman Hospital to visit him during his long hospitalization and we were blessed by the many stories they told about his generosity to his friends and strangers that later became friends. Scottie had a giving heart always. Upon learning of his passing, a plethora of messages and text have been received with memories of Scottie and his friendships. Someone said, “Scottie you lived your life at 125% always.” Yes, indeed he did. Scottie is survived by his daughter Mattie Vera and husband, Omar; Kaitlyn Barnes, and his grandchildren Kacy Scott Barnes and Karly Emilia Anne Galaviz; sister, Darlene Jennings and husband, Horace; brother, Ken Barnes and wife, Lauree; many nieces and nephews; as well as his devoted Aunt Sheryn Hurley and husband, Michael of Missouri.
