Russell Douglas Zimmer

Russell Douglas Zimmer, 90, of Mansfield, Texas, passed away Monday April 7, 2014.
Russ was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He joined the Navy during World War II as an apprentice seaman and advanced to Lieutenant before separation from the service. Russ was a multi-degreed engineer who worked on designs as diverse as the F-16 Aircraft and Apollo Vehicle Mission to the moon. After retirement from Lockheed Aircraft Co., he was owner/operator of 616 Orchard, organizer of Mansfield Soaring Skyward Hot Air Balloon Fest and the Mansfield Farmers Market. He was a member of the Kiwanis and an ambassador for the Mansfield Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors: Children, Marilyn Zimmer, Joanne Sylver, Nancy Zimmer, Eric Zimmer, Marc (Zimmer) Saxon, Tony Zimmer and Jon Zimmer; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Russ was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Zimmer and five brothers.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Lillian.
