It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Roy Washington Wirt Jr. Roy passed away on Saturday April 24, 2021. He was 87 years old and had resided in Mansfield Texas for 45 years. Roy was born in Salem, Virginia, and was the third child of seven children to Roy and Annie Wirt. Roy grew up and graduated from high school in Salem. After high school he attended Hargrave Military Academy. Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956-1958.
Roy was a natural salesman and leader who never met a stranger. He attracted friends from across the country with his magnetic personality and charm. He enjoyed a successful and robust career with Eastern Airlines and retired after 35 years of service. He then went on to co-own CenterPoint Travel Agency until he fully retired in 1996. Roy’s passions were golf, traveling and spending time with family and his friends.
A devoted husband of 45 years, he is survived by his loving wife Linda Wirt, and children Barry Wirt, David Wirt, Kevin Wirt, Debbie Steele, Deanna Acosta, eleven grandchildren and seven great grand children.
Roy will be greatly missed by all, but will live on through the lives of those he entertained with his one-of-a-kind personality and by all who knew him as friend,husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather … and talented golf buddy.
