Mr. Marvin Ross Rogers, Jr. died unexpectedly working in his boatyard on August 6, 2015 in San Leon, Texas at the age of 69.
Ross is survived by wife, Becky Rogers, of Burleson, Texas; children, Jennifer Rogers Jackson and husband, Michael Wilson, of Austin, Texas; Bryan Ross Rogers and wife, Olivia Rogers, of Mansfield, Texas; and Allen Edgar Rogers and wife, Elizabeth Nowrouz, of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, William Ross Jackson, Wesley Daniel Jackson, Thomas Phillips Wilson, Brody Ross Rogers, Barron Wade Rogers, and Brant Eli Rogers; and sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Ross Rogers, Sr. and Ada Marie Rogers, and his brother, Roy Benton Rogers.
Ross was born on October 12, 1945 in Houston, Texas to Marvin and Marie. He graduated from Suitland High School near Washington, D.C. in 1964 and attended the University of Houston for several years while pursuing a degree in Political Science and working for Arco Steel. He married Becky Roberson in 1975 after an on and off courtship and moved to South Houston, Texas, where they started their family. Ross was a self-described “jack-of-all trades” and worked for Hughes Tool Company, Jefferson Standard Insurance, and owned and operated a sweeping service. After moving to Pearland, Texas, Ross continued his career in the insurance industry as well as various other pursuits. His children remember him as someone who pushed them to be the best they could be.
Ross was a high school track star and an accomplished sailor who had to give up sailing for the reality of family life, but he never gave up the dream. He could fix anything from his daughter’s Barbie dolls and his sons’ Star Wars and He-Man toys to major home and vehicle repair. It was a brilliant skill. He had a generosity of spirit, and he and Becky hosted multiple gatherings of family and friends each year. Everyone looked forward to Labor Day and Memorial Day at the Rogers’ place.
A funeral is scheduled 11 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2015 at Blessing Funeral Home in Mansfield, Texas, with a reception to follow at First United Methodist Church of Mansfield. Pastor Mike Ramsdell will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ross’s life.
