Robert Allen Berry, Jr., 57, passed away January 9, 2017. Robert was born to Robert Allen Berry, Sr. and Barbara Carolyn (Jackson) Berry October 29, 1959 in Littlefield, Texas.
Robert grew up with a loving family surrounding him. As a child, he was a lover of animals. He had quite the menagerie, raising a pet crow name Hackberry, training it to sit on his shoulder and to sit on a perch. Robert rescued a baby bobcat from a washing machine from the local junk yard. At one point, Robert’s father even brought him home a pony from an auction! His brothers and sisters have many fond stories from their childhood; from fishing and escaping moccasin snakes, getting in trouble for jumping on waterbeds, listening to him play guitar, and even being saved from trees by their big brother, Robert. Growing up, Robert spent a lot of time with his father at their family electrical business, thus making him quite the handyman. At the ripe old age of 8 years old, he met the love of his life Tammy Whitaker, at his home church, Calvary Baptist in Muleshoe, TX. Robert chased and pursued Tammy his entire life, and she finally gave in and married him at the age of nineteen. In their early years of marriage, Robert attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Robert was later hired by Envoy Airlines where he remained a loyal employee for 27 years.
Robert was not just a proud husband but a loving father as well. In 1984 Robert and Tammy welcomed their daughter, Stormi, and, almost 12 years later, a son, Kelly. Time spent with Stormi and Kelly’s father will continue to be a special memory to them. Robert enjoyed fishing with his father-in-law and Stormi. He often brought Stormi to work with him, and would often come home bearing presents for her from the toy store near his work. In her teenage years spending many of his Friday nights watching Stormi on dance with the drill team on the football field. Robert’s son, Kelly, has warmest memories of time with his dad. Kelly too loved going to work with his dad, riding motorcycles, playing with remote control cars, practicing for baseball, and buying fireworks together. When Kelly joined the Army, Robert and his son spent time shooting at the gun range. Robert, the gun enthusiast, was ecstatic when Kelly unexpectedly bought him an AR15 last year. Two weeks ago, Robert convinced Stormi to go to the gun range for the first time with him, her grandfather and brother. In spite of her dislike for guns, once they finally talked Stormi into picking one up, they could not get the gun out of her hands, and needless to say, the men didn’t get a lot of shooting in that day. That great day was filled with laughter and this memory was captured on video by Robert. Stormi and Kelly have fond memories of time spent with their father and the knowledge of their father’s love will forever endure in their hearts.
Robert is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Carolyn Berry and several loved Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents.
Robert is survived by his wife, Tammy, his daughter Stormi, his son Kelly, and his grandchildren Ayla, Josiah, and Judah, his father Robert Berry and his wife Laura Ann, his brother Jimmy and his wife, his sisters Michelle and fiance, Elizabeth, Robin, and Linda and her husband and one aunt, Bessie Lee Hanks and her husband Lester. He is survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
