Rickey Wheeler was born to Irene and Leo Wheeler on March 30th, 1953 in Nassau County, New York. Rickey attended high school in Roosevelt, New York where he played football for the Roosevelt Rough Riders. He was also in a band called the Silver Tones and played the bass guitar. Rickey graduated with honors. He also met the love of his life Myrna Card. Shortly after high school graduation they were married on July 1st, 1972.
Rickey joined the Army in 1973 where he spent 14 years defending our country. He received the Over Seas Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (3rd award), and National Defense Service Medal. He was also an Expert Rifleman. Rickey was stationed in Belgium, Korea, Fort Hood and Fort Riley.
After leaving the army, he was a Mail Carrier for the United States Post Office. He moved to Florida where he lived until he retired.
Rickey loved music, dancing, he made friends easily and it was always a pleasure to be in his company. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in St. Augustine, Florida where he was a deacon.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Myrna after 46 years of marriage, his sons; Rickey Jr., Charles Douglas and Aaron Maurice Wheeler. Grandchildren; Isis, Aaron, Rickey, Jirani, Sharle, Florine, Nevaeh, Lareina, and Laurice. He was a good brother to his brothers Gary, Kevin, and Steven and sister Deborah and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
