Richard Henry Matthews Jr, “Buck,” 63, of Mansfield, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones after spending several days in the hospital.
Richard was born on September 27, 1958 to Richard Henry Matthews Sr. and Joyce Wilson Matthews. He graduated from Mansfield High School in 1977 and enjoyed spending most days at the Kow Bell Rodeo Arena. After a brief stint in the Armed Services, Richard began a long career at the City of Arlington Water Department. He retired in 2014 from the City of Kennedale.
He enjoyed spending time with his two horses Sugar and Skip and could always be found sipping coffee on his back porch. He loved to patron his favorite restaurant Whataburger like any good Texan.
Richard’s pride and joy were his 6 grandchildren and his two border collies, Kodee and Cooper.
Richard is survived by his love of 23 years, Julie Young; Son, Jason Matthews and wife, Lauren; daughter, Kacie Mitchell and husband, Brandon; daughter, Crystal Matthews Earl and husband, Tom; mother Joyce Wilson Matthews; sister Annette Knight Crowley; grandchildren, Peyton, Carson, Rylie, Leighton, Cadence and Jocelyn and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by father, Richard Henry Matthews Sr. and sister, Charlotte Matthews Fulmer.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 21st at 5 pm at Blessing Funeral Home in Mansfield, Texas. Visitation will be Thursday, October 21st from 3-5 pm.
