MANSFIELD -- Rebecca "Becky" Ann Ownby, 61, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 17, 2012. Service: Noon Wednesday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Mansfield. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Becky was born Dec. 30, 1950, in Dallas to Maurice and Hula Whitis. Becky married James Charles "Jim" Ownby on May 14, 1983. Becky worked at Bell Helicopter Textron for 35 years before retiring in December 2010. Becky, known to her family as "Grammy" or "Grammy Bec," was a kind, loving, compassionate, generous woman with a servant's heart who loved the Lord with all her heart, mind and soul. Grammy's hobbies included baking (especially pies), helping others, spending time with family and loving on her grandchildren and great-nieces and great-nephews. Heaven got a new shining star with the arrival of Becky. She will be dearly missed by all of us who loved her. Becky always said, "Butter Crisco is better!" Becky was preceded in death by her mother, Hula Zoe Whitis. Survivors: Her loving husband, James Charles Ownby; father, William Maurice Whitis; children, Christi and Ed Gimber, Denny and Robyn Gregory, Travis and Karyn Ownby, and Russell and Kandi Ownby; twin sister, Debbie Hawkins and husband, Jackie; brother, Bill Whitis and wife, Sue; grandchildren, Logan Ownby, Ashton Ownby, Hannah Ownby, Riley Ownby, Alex Gregory, Charlie Gimber, Morgan Gregory and Zoey Gimber; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families who loved her like a second mother.
