Paul Hill Cleveland, 83, of Mansfield, Texas, a retired Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer, departed this Earth on March 25, 2023, to join his Savior, Jesus Christ, and his ancestors in Heaven.
Paul was born August 7, 1939, in Temple, Texas, to Wright Wells Cleveland and Letha Parker Cleveland. He graduated from Temple High School in 1957. He served in the United States Navy as an enlisted man from 1958 to 1962, flying as an aircrewman from the USS Independence, CVA-62. After completing his military service, he graduated from the University of North Texas in 1966 and the University of Texas at Arlington in 1976. He worked twenty-five years in the aerospace/defense industry as an Avionics Engineer at Vought Aircraft (LTV), and at General Dynamics, working on several aircraft programs: F-8, A-7, B-2, F-16, and A-12.
In 1993, Paul commenced a new career in railway signaling on the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Light Rail Project. He served as DART’s first Signal Supervisor from 1996 through 1999, then served as a Consulting Engineer for Union Switch & Signal and Mass Electric on the DART Light Rail extensions to Garland, Plano, and Victory Station. Paul also worked from 2004 through 2007 as a Conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad.
Paul was a member of the Mansfield Church of Christ, the Humane Society of North Texas, life member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, life member of the Tailhook Association (naval aviation), and a Benefactor of the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation in Pensacola, Florida.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, John Wells Cleveland, of San Pablo, California.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn, of Mansfield, Texas, his sons, Robert Andrew Cleveland (Jennifer) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and James Creighton Cleveland (Gianna) of Mansfield, Texas, his grandchildren, Stephen Andrew Cleveland, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Brittany Scroggins, of Dallas, Texas, his brother, Andrew Jack Cleveland (Pamela), of Wildwood, Florida, his sister-in-law, Lynne Kayfetz, of San Pablo, California, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and his grand-dog, Giorgio, the protective Pomeranian mix who helped James and Lynn to watch over Paul in his final months.
Visitation will be held at Blessing Funeral Home in Mansfield, Texas on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Burial will take place at Little Flock Cemetery in Temple, Texas on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm with military honors.
