Orbon Barnett Ward of Alvarado, Texas, at the age of 90, took his last breath of Texas air and his first breath in heaven on Monday, September 28, 2020.
Orbon was born in Hillsboro, Texas on February 19, 1930. He was the 5th of 11 children. He moved to a farm in Alvarado where he raised a variety of animals with his wife and 4 children. He retired from the City of Fort Worth in 1985 after 32 years of service. He was affectionately known as “O.B., Barnett, Papaw, Uncle Ward” and “Tex” during his army days. He proudly served in the Army as a Corporal in the 147th Infantry Regiment during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge, UN Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal w/3 Bronze Service Stars.
“O.B.” loved tractors, farming, cattle, gardening, telling jokes, Saturday night wrestling, and meeting up with friends at Whataburger. He also loved traveling to Winstar. He was well known in the community and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He was a beloved longtime member of Retta Baptist Church. His grandchildren and great grandchildren loved hearing his stories and jokes, animal imitations, and Papaw tractor rides.
Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his parents Orbon & Della Ward, siblings Henry Hataway, Arthur Hataway, Doyle Hataway, Willard Hataway, Earlene Huse, Lily Mae Romine, Joyce Kirby and Clemmie Sykes.
Mr. Ward is survived by his wife, Flora, with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage on June 7, 2020. He is also survived by son Daniel Ward and wife Carol of Alvarado, TX; son Duane Ward of Alvarado, TX; son Jeff Ward and wife Allison of Lawrenceville, Georgia; daughter Teresa Hook and husband Wayne of Alvarado, Texas; brother Lloyd Ward and wife Rona of Jacksboro, Texas; sister Edna McGee of Round Mountain, Nevada and 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and other beloved family members.
Social Distancing and Mask are required at Mr. Ward's Visitation Tuesday 6, 2020 at 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
