Nancy Houghton Smith, 71, Mansfield, Texas passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
She was born in Midland, Texas on August 3, 1950. She graduated from Midland High School in 1968 and went to Texas Tech University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1972. She married Gerald Dan Smith on June 15, 1974. Following her teaching career, Nancy focused on being a mother to her three children where she excelled at teaching her family how to live, love, and laugh. Dan and Nancy would become oil & gas producers for the remainder of their lives.
Nancy was best at knowing people. She thrived on engaging with everyone she encountered and loved nourishing relationships. She was always willing to host an event allowing her to hone her skills at "20 Questions." Nancy was a long-time member of First Methodist Mansfield, Bible Study Fellowship, and recently joined Mansfield Women's Club. Her favorite thing to do was cheer on her grandkids at their sports and activities and loving on her dog, Rocky.
Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Dan Smith; father Frank L. Houghton Jr.; mother, Sue M. Houghton; sister, Judy McCrary; and son-in-law, Todd Christmas. She is survived by her children, Erica Smith Uplinger (Keith), Sam Smith (Michelle); and Matt Smith (Chrissy); grandchildren, Austin and Kaylie Smith; Jordan and Abigail Uplinger; and Weston, Tyler, and Shelby Smith; and brothers, Miller Houghton, and John Houghton; In-laws Ann and Randy Stalnaker; and nieces Kelly McCrary, Stephanie Sowell, Laura Houghton and nephew Stephen Houghton and Laura Houghton.
