Mattie Gray

Mattie Bernice Harrison Gray, 88, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at her home in Mansfield. Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at Blessing Funeral Home, Mansfield. Interment: Mattie will be laid to rest next to her husband in Mount Shepherd United Methodist Church Cemetery near Asheboro, N.C. Mattie was born and grew up in Mansfield. After graduating from Mansfield High School in 1941, she attended Arlington College where she met her husband. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mansfield. She and Lloyd moved to Asheboro, N.C., in 1966. She returned to Mansfield in 2010. She loved being a grandmother and gardening. She was the best pie baker around. Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, retired Capt. Lloyd Dixon Gray; parents, Charles Hubbard Harrison and Johnnie Gay Huggins Harrison; siblings, Luis Franklin Harrison, Charles Huggins Harrison "Bub" and Mary Beatrice Ray. Survivors: Children, Sallie Gay Maxwell, Max Dixon Gray, Thomas Clarence Gray, Patti LaNell Gray, Mattie Camille Johnson; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Bonnie Withers and Brenda Smith.
