Marilyn Bernice Freeman

April 27, 1933 — April 5, 2016

Marilyn Bernice Johnson Freeman passed from this earth at her home in Grand Prairie, TX, on April 5, 2016, at the age of 82 and is now resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her husband and children were by her side.
Marilyn was born on April 27, 1933, at home in Hominy, OK, to Jim and Mary Johnson. She graduated from Hominy High School in May 1951. She joined the Air Force on June 21, 1951, and did her training at Lackland Airforce Base in San Antonio, TX, and Oklahoma State in Stillwater, OK. She was then stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, OK until she was honorably discharged in March 1952. Marilyn met her husband, Bill, when her brother, Jim, brought Bill to Hominy to enlist in the National Guard. Jim brought Bill home for a home-cooked meal, for which Mary was well-known to provide a “rib-sticking” meal to anyone who came through the door. They say “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” which may well have been true for Bill. Bill and Marilyn were married on March 21, 1953, in Hominy, OK, and Marilyn continued providing those “rib-sticking” meals for Bill. They moved to Texas immediately following their wedding. Their three children: Peggy, David and April, were born and still live in Texas.
Marilyn loved the Lord with all of her heart, and she shared her faith with everyone either by word or deed. She was very kind, gentle, loving, generous, and devoted to her family. She loved serving others with her time and talents: delivering Sunday bulletins to others who could not attend church services; baking cakes or cookies (carried on from her mother) and sharing with her co-workers; or inviting others to a family meal; the list goes on and on. She left a beautiful legacy for her family and friends. Marilyn loved fishing (taught to her by her father, Jim, and enjoyed with Bill), reading her Bible and other literature, cooking, collecting angels, doing jig saw puzzles, as well as creating all kinds of arts and crafts.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jim and Mary Johnson.
Loving memories of Marilyn will be cherished by her husband, Bill Freeman of Grand Prairie; children: Peggy Baker and her husband Terry; April Smith and her husband Blaine; and David Freeman; grandchildren: Brian and his wife Amber; Brett; and Bradd; Jennifer and her husband, Quyen; Andrea and her husband Kris; Crystal and Dustin; great grandchildren: Caitlynn, Tenley, Nolan, Maddi, Caleb, Hunter, Dahlia, Ethan, Kendra, Jacob, Steven; brother: Jim and his wife Bonnie; sister: Daisy; mother-in-law, Thelma; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held, Saturday, April 16th at 10:00 a.m. at the Mountain Creek Retirement Center, 2305 Corn Valley Rd., 3rd floor, Grand Prairie, TX 75051.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through their website: donate.cancer.org.
The family wants to acknowledge their sincere appreciation for the love and care Marilyn received from the nurses and staff of VITAS Hospice Care.
Marilyn will be lovingly remembered for her beautiful smile and the way she showed Christ’s love to others.
