Margie
We hardly knew this girl, it’s true,
She hardly touched our life
When our son, Don, put on the con
And took her for his wife.
Margie Morris was her name
And cute as she could be;
It wasn’t long before we found
She had a spirit free.
It soared aloft past mountains high
Or plunged into the deep.
With Marge around we quickly found
We’d never go to sleep.
When Christmas time would roll around,
She nearly drove us wild.
She peeped and rattled and cajoled
Just like a little child.
She brought a joy into our home;
She teased and laughed and played.
It wasn’t long before we thought,
“Old Don sure has it made.”
He couldn’t have married a sweeter girl
And one that we’d love more;
Thus Margie moved into our hearts
As a daughter we adore.
Her house she keeps in order,
Her clothes and linens clean;
You’d think she had a love affair
With her old wash machine.
She loves her yard and flowers
And from no task will she shirk.
One asset comes through loud and clear,
She’s not afraid of work.
She loves to act like she is tough
And never has a care,
But underneath that big charade
Our Margie’s always there.
Her heart’s as big as all outdoors
And tender as a rose,
She really cares for other folks
And all that caring shows.
You can brag about your daughters-in-law
And all that “Tommy Rot”;
But we wouldn’t trade for all the world,
We love the one we’ve got.
