On May 4, 1930, Johnnie Lou made her appearance into this world to Howard and Sylvia Rayburn. On January 9, 2017, Johnnie Lou went to her Savior. She followed one brother and two sisters and proceded a younger brother and sister. As per stories when she started school she hated it so bad, and she cried so much that Ms. Lightfoot sent her home and told them to wait until next year to send her. She loved her momma very, very much but tragically, as her mom was coming home after sitting with some sick folks, she fell and hit her head and a few days later she passed away. It was a heavy burden on the family and especially momma. She told me that story right up until she got too sick to talk. As things go she grew up and got married, a year later her precious little baby came along (Unk) then a few years later I popped up (I’m still not sure I wasn’t adopted) and then the party was over.
Eventually we ended up on the hill where dang near everybody was kin folk. Kids and babies were everywhere…and that just tickled her to pieces. She had a hand in raising every kid on the hill in one way or another and their sure were plenty of kids. Maw was a stay at home wife and that suited her just fine. She loved having the neighbor wives over for coffee two times a day, but she spent most of her days yelling, “Get off my grass”...she loved her grass. She would play softball with us and join in on water gun fights/confetti egg fights and seldom lost.
I could go on for pages and pages but just let it be known, she loved Jesus and all of her family, friends, and neighbors. She was a great mom; no, she was super mom in order to put up with me and Unk.
We all love you maw…You are the best! Love, Jerry
