John Brett Goodson, age 69, of Walnut Springs, TX, passed from this earth on July 30, 2021, after a courageous battle with multiple illnesses. Brett was born on July 5, 1952, to Bud and Jo Goodson, in Wellington, TX. He loved traveling with his family all across the U.S. for his father’s pipeline work. Brett moved with his family to Mansfield, TX, in 1958 and graduated from Mansfield High School in 1970. After graduation, Brett attended Texas Wesleyan College where he met Elizabeth Tanner. They married and had one son, Jody Brett Goodson, in 1973.
Brett worked in the natural gas distribution industry in the Dallas-Fort Worth area from 1972 to 2013. From an early age, hunting and fishing were favorite pastimes, and he became quite a marksman. Brett especially loved fishing in Montana, where he caught a beautiful 34-pound lake trout at Flathead Lake. More than anything, he loved spending time in the wilderness, where he felt closest to God.
Brett was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son Jody; sister Lisa Key and children Caroline and husband Cody Carr, and children Jaycie Rae and Anderson Jack; Payton Key; brother David and wife Amanda and children Clara and husband Chris Caussey, and daughter Gemma Leigh; Dinah and husband Todd Ritchie, and children River J and Layne O’ Malley; and many extended family and friends. A private ceremony is planned at a later date in Montana..
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Blessing Funeral Home in Mansfield, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Brett's name to the Somers Volunteer Fire Dept.
