Jimmie Don Comer, age 93, of Mansfield, TX, passed away September 14, 2024. He was born in Coryell County, TX, on September 8, 1931. Jimmie Don (J.D.) graduated from Evant High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He married Margaret Alice Karper on May 28, 1955. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield and had a passion for horses. He was survived by his sons, Jeffrey G. Comer, Alan L. Comer, Dale L. Comer, his daughter Paula K. (Mrs. Monty G. Roberts), his grandchildren, Sherri L. (Mrs. Justin G. Wendler), Robert A. Comer, Gary D. Roberts, Casey L. Roberts, and five great grandchildren.

After a free trip to Korea, compliments of the US Army, he spent the next 38 years working for GM.  He was a hard worker and a good provider. He seemed to know how to do anything that needed doing and could find an innovative solution to any problem.  Like a lot of dads, he could be a bit of a character at times, and was both a hero and an embarrassment to his kids.  He was an avid collector of stuff. Growing up during the depression led to a lifelong habit of, shall we say, frugality. He never wanted to discard anything, no matter how wore out, broken, or useless it was. But to be fair, he did seem to have a certain genius for cobbling together repairs using spare parts, baling wire, and duct tape.

Despite the imperatives of the modern world, he really seemed to be a cowboy at heart. He spent much of his free time with his beloved horses. He enjoyed attending various equestrian events and taking long horseback rides down quiet, country roads. And he always encouraged his family to participate, which they often did.  In his later years, he enjoyed eating too many cookies, talking too loudly, obsessively underlining items in the newspaper, and maintaining the room temperature at an insufferable 89 degrees. He lived the way he wanted and didn't try to impress.

He leaves behind a large collection of stuff for his kids to bicker over and a mountain of memories.

He will be missed.
