Jeanne C. Nieting, 88 of Mansfield, passed in the morning of the New Year, Friday, January 1st, 2016.
She will be cremated and laid to rest next to her husband in Wilber, Nebraska in the Spring.
She was Born Feb 6, 1927 in Lewiston, Montana to Jack and Mary Atkins.
When she was 2 years old, she and her family moved to a Sidney, Nebraska farm for five years. She then lived in Arcadia, Nebraska for a year, before the family moved to Grand Island, Nebraska where her parents owned a grocery store.
She graduated from Grand Island High School in 1944. She then worked in Civil Service for the U.S. Army-Air Force. In Grand Island and in Rapid City South Dakota. She Married Vernon H. Nieting on Sept 7, 1947, at St. John Lutheran Church in Grand Island by the Rev. Hugo Nieting.
As an Air Force wife, she traveled and lived in South Dakota, Alaska, Texas, Florida, 3 yrs in Germany, and Colorado where her husband was stationed, He retired from the service at Lowry AFB in Denver in 1966 and they moved to California then to Fort Worth where they owned and operated JewelArt of Texas.
They closed the store in the late 1970’s, remaining in Ft. Worth, when he went to work for the city of Ft. Worth.
He retired in 1992 and they moved to Wilber, Nebraska in 1993. He died in March 1994 and Jeanne moved to Cheyenne, WY in June 2001, and then to Isle of WaterCrest in Mansfield in 2010. she is a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mansfield.
She is preceded in death by her Husband of 47years, Vernon Nieting, Daughter Cathy Putnam, Son Michael Nieting.
She is survived by Sons Craig (Rachel) of Mansfield, Rick of Ft. Worth, also 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
