James T. Thomas was born on December 10, 1923 in Mansfield, Texas and passed away peacefully on February 28, 2015 in Granbury, Texas at the age of 91. James, or Jim as he was known, grew up in Mansfield where his Grandfather and Father were medical Doctors. After High School, Jim joined the Army Air Force in 1942 and served on air bases in Midland Texas and Spokane Washington during World War II. After the war he married his sweetheart Betty Thomas of Mansfield on October 12th 1946. They were married 67 years before Betty died in 2013. He missed her terribly and looked forward to seeing her again.
After Jim and Betty married they moved to Fort Worth to begin their family and later to the country near Joshua, Texas. They raised two sons and a daughter and were eventually the loving grandparents to nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Jim Thomas is survived by all his children and their spouses; William and Jane Thomas, James and Paula Thomas and Virginia and David Barge. His grandchildren include Julia married to Seth Branson, Meredith married to Bryan Bockmon, Paige married to Jason Dunn, Holly married to Fraser Ratzlaff, Easton Thomas married to Sarah, Mattie Thomas, Joshua Barge married to Chelsea, Jonathan Barge and Joseph Barge. Jim's great grandchildren include Anna, Levi and Thomas born to Meredith and Bryan Bockmon and Kyle and David, born to Joshua and Chelsea Barge and Logan born to Julia and Seth Branson.
Jim was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved to fly airplanes and watch football. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a story to tell. He was a part of the greatest generation that sacrificed so much for our county during World War II. He will be greatly missed but always remembered and loved by all his family and many friends.
