James Henry “J.H.” Maxwell (89), of Mansfield, Texas, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024, in Burleson, Texas. He was born to Walter Martin Maxwell and Jenny Pauline Story on November 10, 1934 in Rendon, Texas where he would grow up and attend elementary school. He later graduated from Mansfield High School in 1953 where he was active in sports including football, basketball, track, numerous clubs/organizations and held class officer positions.
After high school, J.H. attended Arlington State College, aka University of Texas Arlington, where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. He was employed by Texas Electric Service Company for 39 years. After retirement, he worked at the Texas Rangers baseball stadium before starting a second career at Fox Electric in Arlington, Texas.
J.H. and Doris Jean Nettle started dating during their senior year at Mansfield High School and on August 13, 1955, were married in Colleyville, Texas. He cherished spending time with his family, watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports, and enjoyed gardening, raising livestock, sitting on the porch and listening to music. When he wasn’t saving a random tree or feeding the birds, J.H. loved to watch the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys.
J.H. is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Doris Jean Nettle Maxwell; father, Walter Martin Maxwell, mother, Jenny Pauline Story; sister, Wilma Beatrice Psencik; brother, Walter Earl Maxwell; and son-in-law, Raymond C. Hofman.
J.H. is survived by his daughters, Sheryl Lynne Maxwell Hofman and Andrea Denise Maxwell (David Covert); son, Troy Martin Maxwell (Jody Hatt Maxwell); grandchildren, Amanda Rae Hofman Gibson, Susan Alyse Hofman, Kali Denise Hofman, Ty James Maxwell, Luke Martin Maxwell and Grace Anne Maxwell; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Gibson and Layla Gibson; sisters, Norma Faye Maxwell Chatman,Paula Jean Maxwell Crocker, Debra Ann Maxwell Alford and brother, Randal “Randy” Eugene Maxwell; along with countless nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will be held Monday, August 12, 2024 at 11:00am Walnut Ridge Baptist Church located at 1201 SH360 Mansfield, Texas 76063: Ray Shannon, officiating.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made by check, payable to the Rendon Cemetery Association and mailed to 719 NW Lorna St., Burleson, Texas 76028.
