James Edward Lindsey was born on May 14, 1928 to Finis and Elizabeth Linsey. He married Iva Atteberry, was blessed with six children, and was later united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Betty Abbott.
James was a God-fearing man and the manner in which he lived leaves a legacy of love and happiness for all who knew him. He recently said that when we look in the mirror, we should see the face of God because we are all made in His image.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Finis E. Lindsey and Elizabeth Skaggs Linsey; wife, Betty A. Lindsey; brother, Ed Lindsey; two sisters, Anna Nelson and Nancy Davis; one son-in-law, Roger Day and one grandson, Danny Smith.
Jim’s life will forever be cherished by those he leaves behind: his six children, Pat Smith and husband, Ken, Brenda Messerly and husband, Dennis, Sherry Day, Rick Lindsey and wife, Jacki, Randy Linsey and wife, Connie, Nancy Vance and husband, Wes; fifteen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Steve Smetak and wife, Cindy, and Kevin Hayes; one stepdaughter, Cathy Carlson and husband, Wade; five step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Birchfield and Wanda Elliff; brother, Bill Lindsey and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
The legacy Jim leaves behind spurs us on to love both God and each other more each day. We will strive to love the way he loved and to find joy and laughter in the days to come, for this was his desire.
