James Lewis

James L. Lewis of Mansfield, Texas passed away on December 11, 2024 at the age of 94. James was born in Natchez, Mississippi on March 18, 1930. Following his graduation from Pearl High School, he moved to Palestine, Texas where he met his future wife, Doris Williams. On September 2, 1950, he and Doris were married. Shortly after their marriage, James and Doris moved to Fort Worth, Texas and ultimately settled in Mansfield, Texas in 1955 where they raised two daughters.

James enjoyed a 40-year career as a tool and die maker at General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas; retiring in 1990. During his long career at General Dynamics he was sent on multiple assignments to Belgium, Israel, and South Korea as a quality control consultant. He loved to fish and hunt. In retirement, he also had  time to pursue his woodworking hobby. He and his wife, Doris, also enjoyed taking trips with their travel trailer and spending time on their property in east Texas. 

James was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, in April of 2000; just five months shy of celebrating their fifty-year wedding anniversary. 

James is survived by his two daughters: Linda M. Lewis of Greensboro, GA and Harriet A. Benton of Mansfield, TX; his grandsons James Christopher Benton and wife Korey of Prosper, TX and Dustin Buren Benton and wife Wendy of Mansfield, TX; and his great-grandchildren Blake Benton of Mansfield, TX, Ashley Atkins and husband Mark of Aubrey, TX, and Colin Benton of Mansfield, TX.
