Henry Vest, 90, passed away May 26, 2017. Henry was born to Richard Henry Vest and Hattie Alice (Ellis) Vest on August 15, 1926 in Dawson, Texas. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II and retired from the General Motors Corporation after 34 years of service.
Henry was an avid animal lover, owning several chickens, goats, dogs, horses and even a donkey, among others. An outdoorsman, he loved spending time with his children riding horses, camping and working in his garden. His children can attest to the stories he told and the times they held very special in the activities they attended with their father.
Henry was a horse lover, attending Cowbell Rodeo was not only a highlight to him but his children as well. He was a member of the Sherriff’s Department riding club and rodeos were attended, on a regular basis, all over Texas. His children attended many outings on horseback with him and recall those memories as some of the fondest of all.
Henry was a John Wayne fan, enjoyed cooking the vegetables he picked from his garden and spending time with family.
Henry is known as a gentle man and spirit, knowing always how to handle the ups and downs of life that were not only handed to him but those around him as well. He is a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother as well as friend. Those close to Henry, although saddened by his passing, are forever branded by the mark he has left on their hearts and his legacy will always be in the love he shared with those he held close. Memories of Harris Brothers Grocery Store, Susie V. and Cowbell will forever be seared into the minds and hearts of those Henry held near his own heart.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, son Timothy Vest and his first wife, Lois.
Mr. Vest is survived by his wife Terry, son Richard, daughters Jeanie and Christy, sister Ethel Rains, 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
