Herman Emory Baxter Jr. was born at home Oct. 16, 1928 in Sardis,TX to Herman Emory Sr. and Jessie Baxter. He was the third of three boys. He and his brothers R.C. and T.E. grew up on farms in the Mansfield/Midlothian area. In 1947 he married Geneva (Beffie) Foster. They were married until 1997 when Beffie passed away. In their life together they had two sons, David and Ronnie. He welcomed into the family daughters in law Pasty Murphee, Frances Lynch and Linda Sue Jones. He loved the life of a grandfather with Sharon Lynn, Angela Michelle, and Casey Lorne. Just this past summer he got to meet his great grandsons Eric and Jack. In 1998 he married Frances Bagley and welcomed the addition to his family of her sons, Lathan and Bruce along with their families. He was blessed with many nieces and nephews and enjoyed his role as Uncle.
H.E. was a busy man working hard all his life. About 1947 his father H.E. Sr. started the Baxter Feed and Grain which is still in operation. In 1956 when H.E. Jr. was laid off from Consolidated Aircraft he joined in the Feed and Grain business with his father and revived the custom farming part of the operation. Over the years the Baxter Feed and Grain has had its ups and downs, but H.E.'s favorite days were on a tractor in the field. In 1954 H.E. began his service with the Mansfield Volunteer Fire Department and served as Chief for ten years. In all he gave 35 years of dedicated and unselfish service to his community. H.E. grew up in the Church of Christ and has been a faithful member of the Mansfield Church of Christ since the 1960s.
Herman Emory Baxter Jr. was well loved by family and friends. He returned that love many times over. His laugh and smile will be missed, but good memories live on as we are comforted by the knowledge that his spirit lives on in Christ.
