George Lewis Sparkman

George L. Sparkman completed his life journey on July 28, 2015 at his home in Mansfield Texas.

He was Born on Easter Sunday April 9,1944 in Stephenville, Texas to George B. Sparkman and Mary Lorena Menefee Sparkman. He attended Stephenville schools graduating in 1962 and then attending Tarleton State University for three years. During his high school and college years he worked at the Dairy King and drove a U.S. Mail route between Stephenville and Tolar Texas. He along with his brothers and father were involved in the Boy Scouts of America where George obtained the highest rank of Eagle Scout.

In November 1965 he met the love of his life Sue Annette Eagle whom he married on August 20,1966 in Burkburnett, Texas.

In January of 1966 George enlisted in the United States Air force and completed his training in Biloxi Mississippi. He would then go on to serve 2 tours in California, Vietnam, 2 tours in Korea, Germany, Spain, New Jersey, Washington, England and North Dakota. While serving in Spain he also served as the Boy Scouts District Commissioner for the Iberia-Morocco Council. George retired from active duty after serving 22 years, 9 months and 23 days on October 31 1988 at Grand Forks Air Force Base in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

George and his family moved to Mansfield, Texas in December of 1988, Where George began a 22 year career with Bell Helicopter Textron. He first went to work for Bell at the plant in Hurst Texas till he was laid off in January of 1993. George would move the family to Greenville Texas where he worked for E-Systems until he was recalled by Bell at Christmas time of 1993. He then spent a 90 day tour at the Hurst plant before subsequently transferring to the Arlington, Texas plant where he was assigned to the prestigious V-22 Tilt rotor Osprey Program. George retired from Bell Helicopter on July 31, 2011. George Was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars as well as a 32nd degree Mason. He spent his retirement with his loved ones as well as doing some traveling. He loved going on a road trip or going to a family function.

In addition to his wife Sue , George is survived by his three sons and their spouses. Neil and Carleen Sparkman of Mansfield, Chris and Anita Sparkman of Mansfield, and Shaun and Sharon Sparkman of Abilene. His four grandchildren Avery Loren Sparkman, Dallas Daniel Lofthouse, Mason Kirk Sparkman and George Franklin Sparkman. his brother Duane O. Sparkman and his wife Vickie of Stephenville, his brother Robert Sparkman of Stephenville. his nephews Jason and his wife Afreen of Trophy Club, Texas and Jordan and his wife Kindra of Houston Texas, and his aunt Betty McLarty Menefee of Granbury, as well as several special grandchildren, cousins and close family friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday August 8, 2015 at The Community at Lake Ridge 1151 Mansfield Webb , Mansfield Texas.

A Private Family only Ceremony will be held at DFW National Cemetery at a later date.

Flowers may be sent to Blessing Funeral Home in Mansfield Texas.
