Fort Worth-- Ethelene Head, age 100 years 8 months and 10 days, died Monday, July 9, 2018 at Cummings Assisted Living at Lakewood Village Retirement Center.
Funeral: Memorial Service in the auditorium at Lakewood Village on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 10:15 a.m., with private family burial in Moore Memorial Gardens.

Edna Ethelene was born in Muskogee County, Oklahoma on Oct. 30, 1917, the daughter of William Anderson 'Willie' Curtis and wife Dolpha Ella 'Dot' Hess Curtis. She married Walter Young Head on May 29, 1937 in Bristow, Creek County, Oklahoma. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage. They lived happily for 47 years in the house Walter designed and built with his own hands in a pecan grove. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, being immersed on Apr. 24, 1930 in a cold creek in Cherokee County, Oklahoma.
Ethelene was Valedictorian her senior year in high school but did not graduate, as married girls were not allowed to graduate in those days. She was the first graduate of the Adult GED program of Arlington Independent Schools in May 1966. Along with husband Walter, she was active in Spanish missions, both traveling to Spanish-speaking countries and conducting home Bible studies. She learned Spanish so as to be a more effective Bible teacher.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 69 years, and sons John William 'Johnny' Head in 1946 and Walter Young 'Wally' Head Jr. in 2003. Also preceding her are siblings William Archie, Holland Dale 'Bud' and Shirley Ann Curtis, Mildred Eugenia Ward, and Rosemarie McFall.
She is survived by daughter Sharon Elaine Head Gammon and husband James of New Mexico, and son Timothy Lawrence Head and wife Bobbe of Van Horn, Texas; daughters-in-law Grace Snowden Head of Arlington, Doris Matetzschk Head of Tyler and Trudie Smith Head of Cleburne; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Hendrickson and her husband Cooie, of Denison, Texas, Sally Lynch and her husband, Earl, of Amarillo, Texas and brother, Charles Curtis and his wife Carolyn, of Ivanhoe, Texas; sister in law, Patricia Wakefield Curtis of Talhequah, Oklahoma; and numerous extended family members and friends.
