MANSFIELD -- Our beloved Edna Earle Brown Hudson, 94, was called home to be with our Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2014, surrounded by a host of family members.
Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blessing; visitation 10 to 11 a.m. Burial: Pleasant Point Cemetery.
Memorials: May be made in memory of Edna Earle Hudson to a charity of choice.
Edna Earle was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Lindale to the late M.A. and Katie Brown. She was raised in Johnson County where she attended school and resided most of her life until becoming a resident at Isle at Watercrest, Mansfield, in June 2011.
She married J.D. Hudson on July 23, 1938. Their 62 years of marriage was a strong Christian bond blessed with five children: Patsy Joan, Patricia Ann, J.D. Jr., Douglas Earl and Tony Neal.
Edna Earle was a woman of faith and a true matriarch who believed that the family unit was very important, and organized a Brown family reunion for many, many years. She was a loving mother and grandmother, caring friend, great cook, seamstress, and all-around homemaker. She also had been at one time owner/manager of Hudson Grocery in Lillian for approximately three years.
Throughout her married life Edna Earle was an active member of her church, community, PTA, and boosters club of Mansfield schools. For 54 years, and at the time of her death she was a member of First Baptist Church, Mansfield.
Edna Earle was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; daughter-in-law, Patsy Jean (Kelly) Hudson; husband J.D.; and son, Douglas Earl.
Her children and their spouses will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Paul Howard, Judy Carpenter, and the ladies of the Ruth Class of First Baptist Church, Mansfield.
The family would like to acknowledge with gratitude the care and support of Ruby Fry, the staff at Watercrest and the medical staff on the fifth floor of Methodist Mansfield Medical Center.
Survivors: She is survived by her children, Patsy Joan Harris and husband, Al, of Hawkins, Patricia Ann Key and husband, Jim, of Lipan, J.D. "Skip" Hudson and wife, Ada Gayle, of Hillsboro, Tony Neal Hudson and wife, Brenda, of Alvarado; brother, Winiford Brown and wife, Bonnie, and sister-in-law, Margie Brown, all of Whitney; grandchildren, Kenneth, Darel and Jason Southard, Kelly Mabry, JBo, Cass, Cade and Dylan Hudson, and Brooke Montgomery; great-grandchildren, Emma, Jacee, Jaydon, D.J. and Stetson Southard, Peyton Williams, Cody and Austin Mabry, Jake, Judd, Joe, Jada, Garrett, Tyler and Tanner Hudson, Halee and Hayden Montgomery; and a number of nieces and nephews.
