MANSFIELD -- Known to many as "Whiz," Ed Whisenant passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016, of complications for terminal liver cancer and a long-term battle with heart disease.
Service: 3 p.m. Sunday at Blessing Funeral Home. Visitation: Private.
Whiz was born in Morganton, N.C., to parents William and Pauline Morrow Whisenant. He worked in the oil and gas pipeline industry and was the chief estimator at Driver Pipeline Company in Irving. Whiz was a recognized leader having been a founding member of the local chapter of National Utilities Contractor Association (NUCA), where he served as V.P. and was the recipient of numerous awards; for example, "Extraordinary Leadership" and Outstanding Construction Projects. In addition, Whiz was an entrepreneur, having founded Whizcon Utility Construction, Inc.
First and foremost, Whiz was an avid golfer. He also was an accomplished potter. He made the most beautiful pottery, so if you had a piece signed "Whizco," you have a true treasure. Whiz was also a talented pencil artist and in his younger years, a musician.
Whiz was deeply loved and will be missed by many.
