Douglas Grady Cooper, 93, of Kennedale, Texas, passed away Friday, December 12, 2014.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Heart to Heart Hospice or the First Baptist Church Kennedale Youth Building Fund.
Doug was born in Fort Worth on Feb. 28, 1921, the son of Samuel Sanford Cooper and Cleo Patra Brown Cooper. He married Ruby Nell Henry Cooper in Kennedale on Dec. 14, 1946. Mr. Cooper was a star pitcher at Poly High School in 1940. Doug was a veteran of the Army Air Corps serving in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kennedale for 68 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. His occupation was an airline mechanic for over 30 years.
Doug formed the first organized Little League Baseball in Kennedale in 1961 and coached the Red Sox. Mr. Cooper spent his time listening to bluegrass music, going to trade days and was lovingly called "PawPaw" by his family.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Nell Cooper; his parents; two sisters; and three brothers.
Survivors: Sons, Melvin Cooper and wife, Carol, and Kenneth Cooper and wife, Barbara; grandchildren, Jeannie Harper and husband, Brian, Douglas Cooper and wife, Katie, Celeste Gamble and husband, David, and Nathan Cooper and wife, Melissa; great-grandchildren, Ainsley, Caroline and Lorelei Gamble and Kale and Calla Cooper; sister, Nettie Mae Cassidy.
