Dorothy Faye Phillips, 92 of Mansfield, went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2022. Dorothy was born on October 28, 1930 to James Milton “Short” Galloway and Audrey Mary Middleton Galloway south of Mansfield, Texas. She was raised working in the home and helping on the family farm with her older brother, Edwin Galloway. Edwin tragically died of polio at the age of 12 and Dorothy took on the role of being both son and daughter working even more in the fields while her father worked managing local cotton gins.
After graduating from high school, Dorothy worked several jobs, including working in her uncle’s dentist office.
On March 28, 1952 Dorothy married Clarence Ray Phillips. Clarence worked for Mobil Oil as a roughneck, therefore they were constantly on the move following the oil rig and living all over south Texas and Louisiana together. During their travels, Dorothy and Clarence welcomed their son, Clarence Edwin, in Ganada, Texas.
In 1960 while Dorothy and Clarence were living in Odessa, Dorothy’s Daddy, Short, came across two parcels of property for sale and told Clarence and her about the land and offered to farm them to help pay for the property. They took him up on his offer and moved to Mansfield. During their move Dorothy was pregnant with her daughter, Jana Lynn, who unfortunately was stillborn.
Dorothy progressed through her career working in her time in Odessa for the office of Trip Construction handling financial operations. After their move to Mansfield, she worked at Cook & Gardner Family Clinic as an office Manager after which she bought an insurance agency from James McKnight and established an office off Main Street. She then went on to take several college courses and passed her real estate broker exam. She added real estate to her insurance and income tax prep business. Several years after, she sold her insurance agency and focused on real estate. She kept her office on Main Street until the late 1980’s and she continued to work in real estate until the mid-2000’s.
Dorothy was the personification of the word “caregiver”. If she knew anyone was sick or had experienced a loss, she was there with a coconut cake or a roast. She was an honest, hard-working, Christian woman. As the saying goes, she treated other people how she wanted to be treated. She never let her family sit idle – she could always find a project for them to do.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clarence Ray Phillips; daughter, Jana Lynn Phillips; parents, Audrey Mary Galloway and James Milton Galloway; and brother, Edwin Galloway.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Clarence Edwin Phillips and wife, Becky; grandchildren, Keith Phillips, Kyle Phillips and wife, Whitney, Laura Nichols and husband, Bryan, great-grandchildren, Kate Phillips, Kole Phillips, Kenzi Phillips, Kennadey Phillips, Kash Phillips, Kambell Phillips, Westin Nichols, and Reagin Nichols; brother John Galloway and wife, Judy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services have been scheduled for January 5, 2023 at the Blessing Colonial Chapel in Mansfield with visitation to start at 9:00 AM and funeral service to follow at 11:00AM. Committal will immediately follow at Mansfield Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Clarence Ray and daughter, Jana Lynn.
