We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dorothy “Dot” Wood Parmley, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and lifelong homemaker. Dot was born on August 27, 1932, in Cleveland, Mississippi to Iola Rickles and James Wood. She peacefully passed away in Mansfield, Texas on March 24, 2024.
Dot was an active member of First Baptist Richardson, where she was known as the “inventor of flavored Ice cream”. She earned that title while at a church social, where she had put Butterfingers in vanilla ice cream, it was a huge hit, prompting someone to steal the recipe!
Dot was a collector of fine things, her favorites being the memories she acquired throughout the years. She loved to crochet; she was very imaginative in everything she did. She was an excellent cook and a wonderful baker.
Dot nurtured every member of the family. She loved her family, and was devoted to being the best mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Dot's dedication to her family and home will always be remembered by those whose lives she touched.
Dot is preceded in death by her parents James and Iola Wood and great grandson Ezekiel Wu.
She leaves behind her loving husband Joe Bob Parmley, son Kenneth Parmley and wife Joi, grandchildren Amanda Wu and husband Lawrance, Sarah Hickey and husband Chad, and Samuel Parmley and wife Rachel, great grandchildren; Eden and Naomi Wu, Nathan and Clayton Hickey, and Norah Parmley, and numerous extended family and friends.
Funeral services and ceremonies will be held in Dot's honor at DFW National Cemetery on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Please join us in celebrating the life of this remarkable woman and sharing fond memories of the time we were privileged to have with her.
Dot will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
