Our beloved Doris Lurlene Morse passed away peacefully April 17, 2024, in Mansfield, TX at the age of 87.
Doris, better known to those around her as Lurlene was born October 20, 1936, in Rayville, Louisiana to James and Doris Gates. The eldest of five siblings. She grew up in Louisiana and later moved to Irving, TX. She worked for over 30 years as a secretary at NCH. In her free time, she volunteered at Scottish Rite Hospital and other charitable organizations.
Lurlene was a fiercely devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling and watching the Texas Rangers. She had a strong Christian faith and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Irving. Even in the last days, weeks, and months of Lurlene's life she would read and sleep with her KJV Bible. God truly loved Lurlene and she loved Him dearly.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister Carolyn Lavarnway and her husband, J.W.; brother Thomas Gates and his wife, Gail; her son Jeffrey Morse and his wife Leslie, her son Gary Morse and her daughter Donna Williams and her husband Lesley; Lurlene was blessed with 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Lurlene was preceded in death by her parents, younger brother Jimmy Gates and younger sister Vivian Verver.
No services will be held. Lurlene was the humblest of humble people. She came into this world discreetly and wanted to leave just as discreetly.
In remembrance of Lurlene, donations may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital as she was an active donor.
