Doris Jean Maxwell

Doris Jean (Nettle) Maxwell, 89 years of age, of Mansfield, Texas, passed away
Sunday, June 9, 2024, in Burleson, Texas.

She was born in Spiro, Oklahoma on November 9. 1934, to William “Bill” Jackson Nettle, Sr. and
Ethel Eva Wagner.

Doris graduated from Mansfield High School in 1953. During high school she was on the
basketball team (district champs in 1951), participated in the pep squad, cheerleading. Doris married James Henry “J.H.” Maxwell on August 13, 1955, in Colleyville, Texas. Doris had a long and varied career as a wife and mother, was employed by Greyhound and General Dynamics, Tandy home typist, and administrative assistant within the Mansfield Independent School District. She was an officer and member of the Mansfield Historical Society and Mansfield Historical Museum where she was a contributor and driving force in the growth of the historical society and museum. Her passions included her family, family genealogy and the occasional bingo game.

Doris is preceded in death by Father William “Bill” Jackson Nettle, Sr., Mother Ethel Eva Wagner,
brothers Ralph Harris Nettle, William “Jay” Jackson Nettle, Jr., and Ray Donald Nettle;
sister Billie Earline Nettle Johnson; and son-in-law Raymond C. Hofman.

Doris is survived by her husband of 68 years J.H. Maxwell; daughter Sheryl Lynne Maxwell Hofman,
daughter Andrea Denise Maxwell and her partner David Covert, and son Troy Martin Maxwell and wife, Jody Hatt Maxwell. Grandchildren Amanda Rae Hofman Gibson, Susan Alyse Hofman, Kali Denise Hofman, and Ty James Maxwell, Luke Martin Maxwell and Grace Anne Maxwell; great grandchildren Jeremiah Gibson and Layla Gibson. Sister Margaret “Tooter” Lou Nettle Watson. And countless nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 11:00am Walnut Ridge Baptist Church 1201 SH360
Mansfield Texas 76063; Ray Shannon, Officiating
