Donald Lawrence Hogston

December 25, 1924 — July 7, 2019

Born and raised in Indianapolis, Don came to Texas with his family in the early 1940’s searching for work. He built B24 bombers during World War II and, though classified as 4F, was drafted for the Korean conflict, serving as a medic with a MASH unit in Japan.

After the war, Don found work at Collins Radio and spent the greater part of his career there.

Don was a 32nd degree master mason for 63 years and Past Master of The Colony Masonic Lodge #1451. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite of the Valley of Dallas and member of the Hella Shrine in Garland. He enjoyed working to raise money for the Shriners’ Hospital and assisting with the Shriners’ Circus.

Don was also a member of the American Legion Holley-Riddle Post 21 in The Colony, TX.

With a keen interest in genealogy, Don spent many happy hours researching his family tree, even traveling to Scotland for research.
He was one of the original charter members of First United Methodist Church in The Colony, Texas. A devout Christian, Don enjoyed singing in his church choir for many years and had a deep and insightful knowledge of the Bible.

Don always made friends along the way, particularly among his First United Methodist Church family and even in his last years in the assisted living center where he resided until his death. He enjoyed Bible study and praise and worship with his friends and staff.

Don is survived by niece Jan Sides (Dwaine), nephew Jim Hogston (Cheryl), and great nieces Brandy Stewart and Sherry Davidson, great-great nephew Westen Davidson, and three great-great nieces, Katriana Stewart, Madalyn Stewart and Elizabeth Davidson and nieces and nephews scattered across the country.
