Don Alton Sawyers, 73, passed away on February 19, 2018 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born to Alton Leo Sawyers and Edna Mae (Wylie) Sawyers in Dawson, Texas on September 2, 1944.
Don is a veteran of the United States Army, where he honorably served as Sergeant Don Sawyers with Battery A, 4th Battalion, 62nd Artillery Division from July 29, 1965 to July 28, 1967 and was a retiree, after 36 years of service, of the Coca Cola Corporation where he worked in distribution and sales.
After leaving the Army, Don married the woman he would have as his bride for the next 50 years, Julia Ann Wilson. His life was filled with moments with his wife and family that will never be forgotten. Vacations, mobile home camping trips, dune buggy fun at Fort Hood, racing Volkswagens and reunions at the lake house will always be fond memories his family will forever cherish. Don enjoyed working, after retirement, as security at Arlington Stadium for the Texas Rangers as well as security for the Fort Worth Rodeo and Stock Show but the biggest part of his life was coaching his son and daughter and greatest joy came in the form of his grandchildren, Trevor and Reagan.
Don is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Julia Ann Wilson Sawyers, son Jimmy Don Sawyers, father Alton Leo Sawyers and mother Edna Mae (Wylie) Sawyers.
Don is survived by Daughter Melodie Sawyers Hukill (husband Frank), Grandson Trevor Hukill, Granddaughter Reagan Hukill, Sisters Barbara Hopper (husband Tony), Linda Brown (husband Scott), Connie Marshall (husband Gerry) and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Don will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and man who always felt family was most important, and, for those who knew and loved Don, he will be missed.
