Clyde Burch, Jr.

October 21, 1932 — November 22, 2023

Burleson, Texas - Clyde Burch, a dedicated family man, accomplished aerospace professional, and scholar, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023, at the age of 91. Clyde was born on October 21, 1932, in Raton, New Mexico, growing up in Taos, New Mexico. Clyde was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a respected member of his community.

Clyde joined the Army and entered jump school where he got noticed as an excellent candidate to join a new unconventional warfare unit being formed and led by Col. Aaron Bank, called the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Clyde was among the first selected for this newly formed group, known as the Green Berets. He was stationed in Bad Tolz, Germany in the 1950's, where he met and married the love of his life, Maria Kohl, who had previously escaped from East Germany. Clyde was fluent in speaking German and Russian, among other skills acquired during his service with SFG. Their son, Hans, was born shortly before moving back to the United States. Clyde's years and experiences in Special Forces was a special part of his life, and he was very proud of being a Green Beret.

Clyde worked for many of the major aerospace companies after leaving Ft. Bragg, N.C. He moved his family from California to Texas in 1968, and also lived for two years in Iran in the late 1970's, working with Bell Helicopter.

Born with an adventurous spirit (loved skiing and mountain climbing) and a thirst for knowledge, Clyde pursued higher education, earning college credits along the way. His determination and passion fueled his success within the industry. After retiring from Lockheed Martin, he devoted his attention to research and developing a variety of inventions that had always intrigued him, as well as immersing himself in Biblical studies.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Clyde embraced the joys of fatherhood. His son, Hans Burch, was a constant source of pride and happiness in his life. Through their shared experiences and unwavering bond, they created cherished memories that will forever live on.

A man of integrity, Clyde valued hard work, honesty, and loyalty. He possessed a gentle spirit and had a knack for making everyone around him feel loved and appreciated. His warm smile, wise advice, and genuine kindness touched the lives of many, earning him the respect and admiration of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Clyde leaves behind a legacy of excellence, determination, and love. He will be deeply missed by his son, Hans, daughter-in-law, Cindy, his grandson, Kevin and wife, Kristine, and great-grandchildren, Jason and Emma. He was predeceased in 2010 by his devoted wife of 55 years, Maria. May we find solace in the memories shared and draw inspiration from his remarkable life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Clyde's honor. Rest in peace, Clyde Burch. Your unwavering spirit and contributions to this world will never be forgotten.
