Cheryl Mitchell Solsbery
September 8, 1942 – December 12, 2022
Arlington - Cheryl Mitchell Solsbery passed away peacefully on December 12, 2022, surrounded by her family, at the age of 80. Cheryl was born to Bonnie Pauline and Frank Mitchell on September 8, 1942 in Fort Worth, where she also grew up. She graduated from Trimble Tech High School in 1961.
She started her career at Texas Refinery in 1964, where she met her life-long best friend, Diane Forsythe. It was Diane who helped her apply and become an employee of the Federal Government, for whom she worked for over 30 years. She spent 21 of those years working for the Federal Bureau of Prisons at what is now the Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth on Wichita Street. She started her career as a keypunch operator; then became an Administrative Assistant in the Psychiatric Department; then moved to the Medical Records Department in 1980, where she was an award-winning employee, even receiving letters regarding her high quality of work signed by multiple Presidents. She retired in 1999.
Cheryl was a devoted and loving mother to her daughter, Dana Renee Solsbery. After divorcing in 1969, she was a strong, self-sacrificing, single mother who put her daughter’s needs before her own. She eventually became a very beloved grandmother, called “Nana,” to her two grandchildren, Britton and Payton. She was very involved in their lives, taking them every place where fun could be found in Fort Worth. She became the beloved Matriarch of a family who treasured her and will never forget they way she loved each one of them. Her love was a powerful, positive force in all of their lives.
Other than her friends and her family, her passion was her beloved chihuahuas. She owned five of them throughout her life and loved each one like her own child.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Dana Renee Asher and her husband, Raymond; her grandson, Britton Allan Fuqua III; her granddaughter, Payton Nicole Martin and her husband, Dakota; her great- grandchildren, Marilyn Rose Martin and Silas Dane Martin; brother, Ronald Frank Mitchell; her beloved niece, Angela Lenore Mitchell; great-niece, Kathleen Dandridge; great-nephew, William Dandridge; her devoted best friend, Diane Forsythe, and many extended family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at Blessings Funeral Home, 401 Elm Street, Mansfield, Texas 76063, on Saturday, January 7th, at 3:00 p.m.
