Carl was born February 1, 1925 in Big Bend, Louisiana, to Henry T. and Gertrude Stagg Carruth. For six years he served his country as a Lieutenant in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War. After returning home he attended Lamar State College of Technology where he met and courted a sweet young thing named Jackie Jean who became his wife of nearly 60 years. He then pursued advanced engineering degrees from University of Houston and University of Texas in Arlington and began a teaching and research career at Lamar University that lasted 22 years. He found great fulfillment there in counseling and educating hundreds of young engineers and several times was voted “Teacher of the Year” by the students. He founded and directed the first robotics laboratory at Lamar to give his students a grounding in leading-edge technology. Over the years, he held the post of president, vice-president and other leadership positions in the Beaumont chapter of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers. His spent his final year of teaching as a visiting professor at MARA University of Technology in Shah Alam, Malaysia.
Carl was a dedicated Christian and served his Lord as a deacon and as a student and teacher of the Bible over many years and in many churches. In later years he enjoyed ministering to others as a hospital volunteer.
Carl was preceded in death by his siblings Tommy, Art, and Natalie. He is survived by his wife, Jackie; sons, Mark, Nathan, Jonathan, Joel; brother, Claude; sister, Gertrude Cherry; grandchildren, Crystal, Julé, Kate, Jenny, Michelle, Megan, Chloe; and great-grandchildren, Stella, Quinn, and Sutton.
