Burl Clinton Anderson was born July 9, 1937 in Levelland, Hockley County, Texas to Forest Bertram Anderson and Alma (Coon) Anderson. He was the second born in the family which had begun with the birth of older sister, Melva, followed by siblings, Gerald, Carol, Ernie and Katherine. Burl's second birth came in 1948, at the age of 11, when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was baptized by Bro. Wainscott in Fieldton Baptist Church, Fieldton, Texas.
Being the son of a tenant farmer on the south plains of Texas, the family moved and farmed land near several small towns in West Texas. All of the children were taught to work hard and receive an education. Having attended several different schools, Burl graduated from Plains High School in Plains, Texas in May, 1955.
Soon after, his father sat with him on the porch of the house and told Burl what his plans were for the coming year. In June, following his graduation at age 17, Burl's dad passed away at the age of 48. At age 17, Burl had to quickly adjust to becoming a man and having three years left on the farm lease, Burl stayed on the farm to help his mother honor the contract and followed the plan as his dad had set out. He finished the final crop in 1957 and the family moved into town.
On March 31, 1958, Burl joined the United States Navy, serving proudly on the USS Intrepid on the attack carriers' final Mediterranean cruise. He was honorably discharged in June, 1962 and returned to Plains, Texas.
In the fall of 1962, Burl enrolled in South Plains College, Levelland, Texas. There he met his future bride, Debbie Elaine Perkins, They were married on December 19, 1964 and recently celebrated their 53rd anniversary. To this marriage were born his greatest prides, four wonderful children; three daughters and one son, who have loved and honored him always.
Graduating from Texas Tech University, Burl received a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1971. He became a Certified Public Accountant on March 16, 1977 and was a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. He enjoyed many years in the firm and Duff and Anderson, CPA's, in Levelland, Texas, where he and Debbie reared their family.
In 1999, Burl and Debbie moved to the Arlington/Mansfield area to be near their children and grandchildren. They are members of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, where Burl served as a Deacon and of Fellowship class. Burl was presently serving on the Tarrant County Appraisal Review Board.
Burl had many fun interests. He was an avid reader from childhood until now, sometimes reading two or three books per month. He enjoyed reading and studying his Bible, especially the book of Revelations and preparing for the Sunday School classes he taught for many years. He enjoyed doing puzzles, working crossword puzzles, hunting and fishing and watching football. As a child, he liked taking apart anything mechanical and putting it back together and enjoys that still. He loved working with wood and making projects that each of us might think of and loved the smell of wood. He enjoyed his life as much as he could in these 80 years.
