Charles William “Bill” Campbell, 85, of Mansfield, Texas, the self-proclaimed “Luckiest Man Alive,” is now dancing in heaven with Jeana.
He was born July 9, 1931, in Columbus, Ohio, to Alice and Condon Campbell. He and sisters Joan and Margaret grew up in Washington Courthouse, Ohio, where he was an outstanding athlete and was later inducted into the Washington Court House Sports Hall of Fame. He played football at Indiana University and The University of Louisville.
Bill married Jean Carolyn Pearce on June 16, 1951. As newlyweds, they moved to San Diego, California where he served in The United States Marine Corps. They had five children and eventually moved to Mansfield, TX in 1968. There, he was an award winning custom home builder, and owner of Avante’ Homes of Mansfield. He was instrumental in the development of the original Walnut Creek Housing division.
He served as president for both The Kiwanis Club and The National Home Builders Association. He was a charter member of Walnut Creek Country Club and St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church.
Bill loved golf, card games, jazz, books, football, the big skies of Texas and Fayette County corn. He was legendary for his Pappy breakfasts, his positive attitude, and his constant smile.

Survived by: Children: Doug and Olivia Campbell, Jill Campbell, Cristy and Roger Campbell-Furtick, Kelli and Bob Wood, and Stacy Campbell. Grandchildren: Dylan, Mackenzie, Jody, Cooper, London, Larkin, Hap and Bo. Great grandchildren: Bowen and Landry. Sister Joan Hardin, and brothers-in-law Phil Pearce and Jim Newland, and many nieces and nephews, cousins, The Sperlazza family and numerous friends.
