MANSFIELD -- Bettye Jo Sweeney, 89, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012, at her residence in Mansfield. Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church, 1091 Country Club Drive, Mansfield. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Episcopal Church of St. Gregory the Great or the Arthritis Foundation. Bettye was born June 11, 1923, in Dallas to Elizabeth Pipes Baker and Charles Baker. She married David William Sweeney and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage. She never forgot her Louisiana roots. She was known for her Southern hospitality, which included a passion for cooking and hosting her family and friends. Having a love of antiques led to the opening of Bettye Sweeney Antiques in 1970. Her greatest joy was raising her five children and the Sweeney home was always open to friends and family. The family wishes to express appreciation to the ladies of Comfort Keepers for their exceptional care of Bettye over the last 6 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mabel; and husband, David, in 2005. Survivors: Sons and spouses, Charles and Sherry, Jim and Joy and Bill and Kim; daughters, Tricia and Laurie and husband, Larry; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
